US$200,000 up for grabs in the Halo 4 Global Championship

Registration is now open for gamers who believe they have the skills to be crowned the ultimate Spartan and win a grand prize of US$200,000 in the Halo 4 Global Championship.

The Halo 4 Global Championship is an international summer-long gaming tournament that comes as a collaboration between 343 Industries and Virgin Gaming.

There’s US$500,000 in cash prizes up for grabs for competitors, including the top prize of US$200,000.

The Global Championship is the biggest Halo 4 competition to date and will involve two live events plus five weeks of online competition via Xbox Live.

It all kicks off at the Rooster Teeth Expo in Austin, Texas, on 5 July and on Xbox Live on 15 July, culminating in a two-day final in Seattle, Washington, on 31 August and 1 September.

For those who can’t make it to the live event in Austin, or the second at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, registration through Virgin Gaming is now open on the Halo 4 Global Championship website.

Registration is free, but an Xbox Live Gold subscription is required. Players will have to complete a minimum of 20 matches in the tournament playlist per week and at the end of each week, those with the top 4 average scores will qualify to compete in the final. Qualifying players will also have the chance to win weekly prizes.

Players can see how they rank in the tournament on a global leaderboard and, in the end, six qualifiers from each live event and 20 from the online competition will receive an expenses-paid trip to Seattle for the final battle.
