One of the greatest sitcoms to come out of the UK and Ireland is 20 years old now, and the internet is responding with a plethora of memes.

However, although there are some good, contemporary pop-culture references, what’s interesting is the vast majority of these memes are merely relaying the script, word for word.

That’s no doubt many lines from Father Ted have become iconic sentences in their own right.

At every crowd event, be it a match or a protest, ‘Down with this sort of thing’ appears. Meanwhile ‘The money was just resting in my account’ remains one of TV’s greatest ever sentences.

So, to celebrate the landmark anniversary for a TV show that meant so much to so many, here are 10 of the best memes out there.
