We visited Fidelity Investments’ Galway location to speak with Sharon Walsh and Emer Guinane about what drew them to Galway after spending time in Dublin and the US.

As the tech scene in Galway continues to thrive and grow with opportunities in sectors such as medtech and cybersecurity, SiliconRepublic.com decided to visit Fidelity Investment’s western location to find out what life is like as a tech professional in the county.

There we spoke to Sharon Walsh and Emer Guinane, who discussed their experiences working in IT in Galway. Walsh, who is currently senior VP for technology at the company, discusses how she found herself at Fidelity’s Galway office after a couple of decades living in the US.

“I was very fortunate that Fidelity had a presence here, so I joined the Ireland organisation and I’ve held several leadership positions with Fidelity here.”

For senior software engineer Guinane, her hometown of Galway called for her return after she spent a few years working at Fidelity’s Dublin office. “I spent six years up in Dublin, really enjoyed the time that I was there,” she says, “but I did know that I wanted to move back and be closer to family.”

The opportunity to return home while also gaining experience working in a large company is something that Guinane is thankful for. “I think it’s great that Fidelity offers the opportunity to tailor your career to the different stages of life that you’re at.”
