The CEO of Nokia Oyj’s mapping unit HERE, Michael Halbherr, is stepping down from the role on 1 September to pursue his own entrepreneurial interests outside of the company.

Bloomberg, in citing people familiar with the matter, reported a disagreement about HERE’s strategy with Nokia Oyj CEO and president Rajeev Suri as being behind the move.

Still, Suri paid tribute to Halbherr, saying he has played a key role in making HERE one of the strongest players in its sector, “with a depth and breadth that is unique. He leaves with my best wishes and the gratitude of all of Nokia”.

Halbherr has been with Nokia for eight years, but in his current role for only four months.

Cliff Fox, senior vice-president, Core Map Group, at HERE, will replace Halbherr until the company finds a permanent CEO for the unit.

Nokia Oyj said it will be seeking that replacement immediately, both inside and outside the organisation.
