Battling the hackers
In a deal worth about €80m, Sunnyvale, California-based Juniper Networks has acquired Mykonos Software, a provider of intrusion deception systems that protect websites and web applications against hackers and internet fraud.
The deal itself closed on 13 February.
Set up in 1996, Juniper Networks is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. The company, which designs and sells internet protocol network products and services, was founded by Pradeep Sindhu, a scientist who had worked at Xerox’s Palo Alto centre, along with Dennis Ferguson and Bjorn Liencres.
The San Francisco-headquartered Mykonos was set up in 2009 by serial entrepreneur David Koretz. He is best known for having founded BlueTie in 1999. The company provides Software-as-a-Service email and collaboration services.
Juniper said the acquisition of Mykonos would allow it to extend its security portfolio with the only intrusion deception system in the industry capable of detecting an attacker before an attack is in progress.
