Irish e-learning company Riverdeep has entered into a deal with Infinium Labs, one of the largest interactive games makers in the US whereby Infinium will market and distribute Riverdeep’s products across America.

The deal will see Infinium market Riverdeep’s extensive catalogue of e-learning titles, including video games and edutainment products, for second-level students on the Phantom Games System. Infinium Labs’ Phantom Game System allows subscribers to instantly search, preview, purchase and download interactive game content and digital entertainment over a secure, high-speed game network.

The agreement covers a wide-range of current titles from Riverdeep’s catalogue, and includes such brands as Carmen Sandiego, Clue Finders, Reader Rabbit, Zoombinis and Mavis Beacon.

Damian Dale, director of OEM sales at Riverdeep said: “Digital distribution of software is here now and will be the wave of the future. Infinium Labs has developed an outstanding service with the security needs of the content owners firmly in mind. We are excited to be a part of this revolutionary distribution programme.”

“The Riverdeep partnership underscores the growing demand for on-demand family entertainment and represents a major step forward in bringing the Phantom Game System to market,” said Timothy M. Roberts, president and CEO of Infinium Labs. “We are excited to be working with such an esteemed and diverse publisher as Riverdeep. Their library of games, kids’ entertainment, educational and productivity software is tops in its class. We are thrilled to welcome them to the Phantom family.”

In April of this year, Riverdeep underwent a management buyout (MBO), closing the deal after months of offers and counteroffers. The vehicle established to carry out the MBO – Hertal Acquisitions, which is led by Riverdeep chief executive, Barry O’Callaghan – received 94pc of shares required for the buyout. The buyout had an estimated value of US$376m.
