eBay Inc is to open its International Operations Centre in Dundalk, Co Louth, this morning, bringing to 3,000 the number of people the internet auction giant employs in Ireland.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny and PayPal president David Marcus are to officially open the new centre, which will serve as headquarters for sales, risk prevention, financial operations, and merchant services operations for eBay and its payment service subsidiary PayPal across EMEA.

Marcus said 1,450 people would be employed at the centre in the coming years, bringing the total number of employees in Ireland to about 3,000, the Irish Times reported.

He said the “broad set of skills” available in the Irish market made it an attractive place to be located.

In February, eBay Inc announced the expansion of its operations in Ireland and the creation of 450 new jobs within its customer services team in Dundalk.

eBay first put down roots in Ireland in 2003, with 25 staff members at the time.
