London’s EV charging network going live in 2011

8 Nov 2010

The new electric vehicle (EV) public charging network planned for London will go live in spring 2011, despite harsh funding cuts.

The network plan was unveiled by London Mayor Boris Johnson and is targeting 1,300 public charging points across the city by 2013.

As well as the network, Johnson said there will be a 100pc discount from the congestion charges for electric drivers in the city.

EV capital of the world?

The scheme represents severe cuts in Johnson’s original plan to make London the “electric car capital of the world”.

Originally, Johnson had promised 2,500 EV charging points before announcing the revised amount.

There are currently 250 charging points serving 1,700 registered electric vehicles in London.
