Vodafone ups text appeal with expanded web service

16 Jan 2004

Vodafone has extended its webtext service by allowing users ten times the amount of messages currently allocated, as well as allowing messages to be sent to other networks.

The service, which is available to Vodafone’s prepaid and postpaid customers, will now let users send up to 300 messages per month free of charge to any mobile phone in Ireland. The previous limit was 30 SMS messages and these texts could only be sent to other numbers on the Vodafone network.

The changes came about following customer research and feedback from users, Vodafone said. To use the service, customers must register with the My Vodafone portal, at www.vodafone.ie. “These enhancements should encourage existing users to visit the portal more frequently as well as attracting new users to My Vodafone,” a spokesperson for Vodafone told siliconrepublic.com.

The company has no plans to begin charging for the newly extended service, the spokesperson added.
