Eir and Meteor are trying to win over new customers with an offer of a free sports TV app to those who sign up to specific deals.

With more telecoms players vying for the most attractive mobile deal in Ireland, Eir is now trying to entice new customers by offering unlimited access to its Eir Sport package on mobiles.

Along with its sister service Meteor, the deal will be made available to those signed up to its bill pay service of between €35 and €55 per month.

For those who sign up, as well as existing customers, Eir will provide its seven sports channels for free through its app, including two Eir Sport channels, four BT Sport channels and the recently launched BoxNation.

Eir said that using the app will not contribute to the user’s data allowance.

It added that customers can register up to two devices, although only one device can stream at any given time.

Henry Dummer, Eir’s marketing director, said: “We have invested heavily in our mobile network, providing 95pc 4G coverage, and today is another example that demonstrates what is possible by delivering content over our converged fixed and mobile network.

“The Eir Sport app is already available to our broadband customers [and] is a huge hit, used by 48,000 customers a month. This new app is a truly unique offering for a whole new group of mobile users, totalling 68,000, some of whom may not have any other services from us.”
