Smartphone owners running Android 2.2 and higher will be able to download the new Instagram for Android app that is launching today on the Google Play store.

Instagram is a massively popular photo-sharing app that launched two years ago.

The company has revealed that it now boasts over 30m registered users worldwide and that there are some 430,000 people who were on the Android waiting list who should be quite happy today.

The app allows users to tailor new shots through a handful of beautiful filters to add a mysterious and exciting look and feel to their shots.

Pictures can then be uploaded to the app’s own social network as well as Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr.

There have been over 1bn Instagram photos uploaded so far, with 5m new photos being uploaded daily and attracting 575 likes per second and 81 comments per second.
