iPad 2 may feature Qualcomm chipset and SD slot

The iPad 2 and iPhone 5 rumour mill has gone into overdrive, with reports suggesting Apple’s upcoming tablet update will feature a Qualcomm dual GSM/CDMA chipset and the new smartphone will feature a complete redesign.

According to Engadget’s sources, the next version of the iPad will launch in April, one year after the first iPad.

It is said to have a dual GSM/CDMA chipset from Qualcomm, as Apple moves towards this company for mobile devices.

It may be slimmer than before and may have a high-resolution display, similar to the iPhone 4’s Retina display.

The sources also said the tablet will have a front and rear-facing camera, similar to previous rumours, but it will not have a USB port. Instead, the iPad 2 could have an SD slot.

There was also talk of the iPhone 5, which will apparently experience a complete redesign.

The phone may run Apple’s new A5 CPU and may also have a Qualcomm chipset. It is set to see a summer release.

The next Apple TV got a mention, too, which may also run the A5 processor and is said to run full HD (1,080p) video “like running water.”

While the information is just rumour at this stage, it will be interesting to see how the new iPhone 5 will look if this is true.
