Logitech partners with Google TV for set-top box

Peripherals and computer accessories manufacturer Logitech is one of the first official partners to work with Google TV and is soon releasing a set-top box running Google’s new web/TV interface software.

Logitech was the first partner to announce availability of a retail companion box for Google TV, which is compatible with its existing Harmony TV remote.

The set-top box will come with a remote control that combines a compact keyboard, remote control and touchpad.

The electronics company says that it soon plans to offer a collection of additional Google TV products, including a HDTV camera and video calling software, plus apps to turn smartphones – other than Android-based ones which will already be able to do this – into Google TV pointing devices.

Logitech said that pricing and availability is not yet available. The bad news for us: Logitech + Google TV will be available in the US only.

Google’s latest venture, which aims to combine the web and TV as the best possible plus access to the Android Market, was announced last week at the I/O 2010 conference.
