A spokesperson for Samsung claims that the company plans to unveil the next Galaxy Note device at an event to be held in advance of IFA Berlin, Europe’s biggest consumer electronics trade fair, which takes place from 31 August to 5 September.

Samsung has produced both a smartphone and a tablet under the name Galaxy Note, and now the question is whether the new device will be one or other, or a hybrid of both.

“We plan to unveil the next Galaxy Note at the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event in Berlin on August 29,” the spokesperson said today, according to Reuters. This places the Samsung unveiling exactly two weeks ahead of the speculated launch date for Apple’s new products.

Rumour has it that the next iPhone and, perhaps, a mini iPad will launch on 12 September, and Apple is certain not to wait much longer as iPhone sales have dipped while consumers hold out for a newer model they know is on the way. Samsung, on the other hand, reported strong Q2 sales, which sees the South Korean manufacturer maintain its position as the world’s leading smartphone vendor.

Clearly, there is no love lost between the two tech giants, who are engaged in a court battle in the US over patents pertaining to Samsung’s tablets and smartphones and Apple’s iPhone and iPad.
