Dublin students top YouTube charts

A video about student life in Dublin is now being downloaded every 45 seconds on popular video site YouTube and has been listed as the “most viewed video of all time” in the Irish education category.

The video, which was shot by a group of Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) students, gives prospective students a preview of life outside the college’s lecture halls. It can be viewed at http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=o1XDouoGKN4.

“When we put the videos up on the website, we had a target of 2,000 downloads by the end of December,” said the manager of DIT Campus Life, Brian Gormley. “We reached our target after just two days.”

According to Gormley, over 1,500 students have embedded the video on their social networking sites, mainly Bebo and Facebook, which makes the video available to a much wider audience in the 16-24 age group.

“Increasingly second-level students are using the internet to research their college choices,” Gormley added.

Under the Irish education category on YouTube, the DIT students’ video achieved the following honours: No 1 Most Viewed; No 5 Top Rated; No 1 Most Discussed; No 5 Top Favourites; and No 1 Most Linked.
