The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation Batt O’Keeffe TD has told the group that is drawing up an action plan emphasising investment and research to focus on high-end jobs.
The group, headed by Intel Ireland’s former general manager Jim O’Hara, are drawing up a five-year action plan for public investment in research and O’Keeffe said economic recovery and high-quality jobs are core to the strategic consideration process.
The group will target around 20 areas on which the Government should focus its allocation of public funding for R&D and O’Keeffe said he requested the group complete its work within 12 months.
20 target areas
It will identify up to 20 target areas on which the Government should focus its allocation of public funding for research and development.
“We are investing €600m annually in research and development to drive new levels of innovation, competitiveness and job growth.
“I am confident that in carrying out its work, the steering group will overlook sectoral interests and place the Irish economy and society at the heart of the strategic consideration process,” said O’Keeffe.
