In its continued efforts to make all of smartphone users’ social messaging go through their app, Facebook has revealed details of its iOS app update, which appears to move in on Snapchat’s turf, allowing filters and text be laid over photos.
Done through the app’s uploader feature, the user taking the photo will be able to swipe horizontally to change its hue to a set number of filters – mostly named after the seasons – allowing the person to switch between the two by dragging the bar.
Also, a new magic wand icon will appear on the bottom left-hand corner of the screen, which controls its other new features, including its ability to overlay text on a photo, exactly like Snapchat.
They can also crop and edit the photos with some basic editing tools.
Along with the previous addition of stickers to photos, Facebook has now combined features from a number of other popular apps into its own.
According to Tech Crunch, the update also features elements from its own previous attempts to launch Snapchat competitors, including Slingshot.
So far, there has been no news on whether it will be moving to Android as this update appears to only be for iOS users but has so far only seen a slow rollout on iPhones.
