There is a new Christian social network: God likes this

A new strict Christian social network developed in Brazil by evangelicals is promising to take the ‘sin out of Facebook’ by banning anything that goes against Christian ideals.

Called Facegloria, the site has seemingly tapped into the rapidly-growing population of evangelical Christians in the South American country and, since launching last month, has gained more than 100,000 users for the Christian social network.

Only 1pc of the people in Brazil claim to have no religious belief whatsoever, with 90pc of the country claiming to be of the Christian faith and, according to the BBC, the start-up that created the site wants to convert more users to the faith.

“On Facebook you see a lot of violence and pornography. That’s why we thought of creating a network where we could talk about God, love and to spread His word,” its designer Atilla Barros.

Given its strict Christian values, all material relating to homosexuality is also banned.

The company was founded by three members of staff working for the mayor of the city of Ferraz de Vasconcelos, who has since used US$16,000 of his own money to back the site.

While currently only available in the Portuguese language, the founders have already purchased the domain rights to an English version of Facegloria, with plans for international expansion.

“Our network is global. We have bought the Faceglory domain in English and in all possible languages. We want to take on Facebook and Twitter here and everywhere,” said the city’s mayor, Acir dos Santos.
