Manchester United has scored its own Twitter account, debuting on the microblogging site yesterday with the tweet, “New era, same spirit. The season starts here. Let’s do this.” The account, at @ManUtd, has already amassed nearly 400,000 followers.
The club’s Twitter account will initially be in English, with foreign-language versions to follow, The Guardian reported.
So far, Manchester United’s Twitter account includes several tweets and several photos, including one of a poster of new manager David Moyes bearing the message “The beginning”.
Manchester United is the last Premier League club to join the social network. The club already has a presence on Facebook, with some 34m ‘Likes’, and the reason it took awhile to join Twitter is because the club may soon appoint a social media campaign manager, according to The Guardian.
Manchester United also launched an account on Sina Wiebo, the main microblogging site in China used by 500m people.
