Mario Kart very clearly deserves its own big screen movie adaption. The long-running game series, which sees Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool, Toad, Yoshi, King Bowser et al locked in a no-holds-barred death race to see who’s the best driver in the Mushroom Kingdom, boasts the kind of manic action that Hollywood would surely lap up and, in fact, have in a way attempted to replicate with the release of the new Mad Max reboot, Mad Max: Fury Road.
Bringing both entities together, filmmaker Kris Sundberg has created this beautiful, seamless mash-up video that adds tons of Mario Kart touches to George Miller’s recently-released dystopian action film, including sound effects, power ups and subtle colour touches to make the whole thing appear that bit more Mario-centric.
Such is the subtlety of parts of the clip that you’ll need to be a diehard fan of the series – and boast some seriously good eyesight – to pick up on all the little details. All that’s missing really is Luigi’s famous death stare.
