A new online news website based in Dublin has been launched that will provide breaking news in an online tabloid format.

NewsWhip.ie, based in Dublin’s Digital Hub, will initially provide employment for four editorial staff on a full and part-time basis and aims to provide independent comment, breaking news and critical analysis online.

Funded by entrepreneur Paul Quigley, the company is part of the Create Ireland Enterprise Platform Programme (CIEPP) that provides support to digital start-ups in Ireland.

Innovative

CIEPP manager Frederic Herrera said the user interface was engaging on NewsWhip and that she believed it would develop over the coming months, adding: “With new models and approaches to online news still taking shape, I’m sure this site will attract attention.”

NewsWhip.ie says it will appeal to readers who are seeking edgy and interactive reporting on the news issues of the day.
