Croke Park Stadium in Dublin
More than 400 leading international scientists and researchers have descended on Dublin for the Research Data Alliance Conference, one of the largest of its type in the world.
The conference, which is being held at Croke Park and organised by the Insight Centre for Data Analytics and the Digital Repository of Ireland, is a joint endeavour between Ireland and Australia. Representatives of both governments will be opening the conference and will be aiming to explore important issues relating to the building of societal and technological bridges which can help increase the exchange of data globally.
The conference will be looking to discuss some of the future hot-topic issues.
Some of the topics that have been highlighted will examine the importance of data sharing for the development of agriculture globally, the development of a common global framework for the management of marine data, and how to address the needs of the overall scientific community in collaboratively utilising large volumes of data.
Ireland’s chief scientific adviser to the Government and director of Science Foundation Ireland, Prof Mark Ferguson, will be addressing delegates along with Australia’s chief scientist, Prof Ian Chubb, AC.
Speaking about the conference, Ferguson said he believes it will provide great opportunities for Irish research groups. “This is an important conference from the point of view of Ireland’s strategic focus on the area of data analytics. It will help Irish research bodies to contribute to international scientific debates, and to encourage industry-informed research and foster further academic-industrial collaborations.”
