Jam Media receives industry award ahead of CBeebies debut

Ireland’s emerging digital media landscape has received a boost in the form of a double whammy for animation company Jam Media, which was honoured at the 2012 Cartoon Tributes Awards and saw the launch of a new series with the BBC.

The first instalment of Tilly and Friends aired on the BBC’s CBeebies children’s programming yesterday while the weekend saw Jam Media take home the award for Producer of the Year at the awards ceremony in Toulouse, France, beating off competition from 30 other countries.

“What an exciting week for us!” said Jam Media CEO John Rice. “It’s testament to the talent that a small country like Ireland can produce. There are over 30 countries participating in this three-day event which represents massive competition and it makes us extremely proud that we have been selected to receive this award.”

Previously, Jam Media had received two BAFTA nominations for TV series Roy, which followed an animated schoolboy and his adventures in real-life Dublin. Fully animated Tilly and Friends is aimed at children aged three to five, and is based on a series of books by author and illustrator Polly Dunbar.

Elaine Burke is the host of For Tech’s Sake, a co-production from Silicon Republic and The HeadStuff Podcast Network. She was previously the editor of Silicon Republic.
