Angry Birds to change into Transformers and back into money for Rovio

16 Jun 2014

Where next for the Angry Birds franchise? Why back to Earth of course, as the enigmatic Transformers, those robots that transform into cars and trucks. Only in this case it will be Autobirds and Deceptihogs.

Angry Birds creators Rovio and toy brand Hasbro are working on a new mash-up that will see Angry Birds Transformers manifest as a mobile game and various toys and merchandise.

“We’re really excited to combine the iconic Transformers universe with the quirky world of Angry Birds” said Blanca Juti, chief marketing officer of Rovio.

“This mash-up is going to appeal to those who grew up with the brand in the 80s, as well as fans of the brand today. People are going to love it!”

Later this year Hasbro will introduce a product line featuring TELEPODS technology which will enable fans to teleport their favourite Angry Birds Transformers characters into the game and gain unique powers.

Epic powers

“Angry Birds Transformers provides fans worldwide with a fun, new story and characters, and innovative ways, like our TELEPODS platform, for consumers to engage with the brand” said John Frascotti, chief marketing officer at Hasbro.

“We collaborated with Rovio to create opportunities for kids and families to experience Autobirds and Deceptihogs across multiple formats and entertainment platforms, for a completely immersive branded experience.”

Last week Rovio announced the global launch of Angry Birds Epic, the company’s first role-playing game featuring Angry Birds characters as legendary heroes.

In the game, which is aimed at casual gamers and die-hard RPG fans, players can craft weapons, upgrade characters, armour and potions.
