Consumer technology giant Samsung has acquired NVELO, a private Silicon Valley-based pioneer of storage software – specifically solid state disk (SSD) storage technology – for an undisclosed sum.
By its own admission, SSD has become an attractive solution for both consumer and enterprise computing platforms.
The NVELO acquisition gives Samsung the ability to manage the use of SSDs in the storage subsystem.
Samsung plans to integrate NVELO’s flagship storage technology into its own SSD technology platform.
The move will also give Samsung access to an evolving and more diversified portfolio of NAND storage solutions for a broader range of computing platforms.
“The acquisition of NVELO will enable us to extend our ability to provide SSD-related storage solutions to customers,” said Young-Hyun Jun, executive vice-president of Flash product and technology, Device Solutions, Samsung Electronics.
“We are pleased with this transaction as the employees of NVELO share our vision to take SSD storage into the next generation of performance and reliability,” Jun added.
The terms of the acquisition weren’t divulged but involve the transfer and technology of all of NVELO’s technologies and its workforce.
