STEM leaders and trailblazers honoured at WXN annual awards

17 Jun 2016

STEM sector luminaries Susan McKenna-Lawlor, director of Space Technology Ireland Ltd, and Margot Slattery, country president of Sodexo Ireland, were among those honoured last night at the Women’s Executive Network (WXN) annual awards dinner.

Every year, the WXN celebrates the outstanding work of 25 Irish women who, by their success, encourage others to follow in their footsteps, be ambitious and succeed.

This year, the Network honoured women who are corporate executives, business leaders, entrepreneurs, public sector leaders, trailblazers, and luminaries in arts and culture.

“This year’s winners are true leaders in their field,” said Sherri Stevens, CEO of WXN. “It is essential that we keep promoting and celebrating their success, because the sad truth remains that progress is still slow.”

Inspirefest speakers McKenna-Lawlor and Slattery were both honoured as trailblazers, recognised for their history of ignoring boundaries and bursting through barriers.

Receiving HSBC Corporate Executives Awards were Bronwyn Brophy, VP of early technologies EMEA at Medtronic; Dr Leisha Daly, country director at Janssen; Niamh Townsend, general manager of Dell, and Helen Tynan, director of people operations for Google in Ireland.

Louise Phelan, VP of global operations EMEA at PayPal, and Rose Hynes, chairman of Origin Enterprises and Shannon Group, received Davy Business Leaders awards.

Helen Dixon, Ireland’s data protection commissioner, was awarded a Public Sector Leaders award, and Sarah Kent, CEO of KenTech International Limited, won an Entrepreneurs award.

All awardees were selected through research and the counsel of the WXN advisory board.
