Yahoo! acquires mobile marketing company Sparq

22 Jan 2014

There appears to be great changes happening at Yahoo! lately as the company announces it has purchased mobile marketing company Sparq for an undisclosed sum as part of its new mobile strategy.

Yahoo! is continuing its overhaul of strategy and staff with the purchase of Sparq, which it hopes will give it the experience the Seattle start-up has developed in easier inter-app movement.

Another factor Yahoo! has considered important is how Sparq has monetised its inter-app technology as a means of raising advertising revenue through selecting particular links.

Changing times at Yahoo!

Sparq’s CEO, Jesse Chor, made an announcement on the company’s website, saying the company is looking to take its developments to a wider market: “I am thrilled to announce that SPARQ has been acquired by Yahoo. We’ve come a long way from our humble beginnings and are proud to have created a service and product that has touched hundreds of millions of people.

“We can’t thank our customers, investors, advisors, friends, and family enough for all of their support over the years. We are uber passionate about mobile – we’ve been striving to build the best mobile platform possible, and are excited to continue upon that goal with Yahoo. Words cannot describe how ecstatic we are to be joining such an amazing team with such an inspiring mission. We see endless opportunity ahead.”

In just over a week, there have been major changes in the top-level positions within Yahoo! as its editor-in-chief Jai Singh decided to quit and its COO Henrique de Castro was let go by CEO Marissa Mayer.
