China to develop unconventional gas sources

26 Nov 2010

China is reportedly beginning to develop unconventional gas sources over the next 10 years to fuel its economy.

The country’s move to the alternative gas source has been brought about due to the declining production of normal gas sources.

According to Reuters, China, the world’s largest coal producer, has approached Myanmar, Russia, and its Central Asian neighbours about purchasing more unconventional gases.

Unconventional gas

Unconventional gas sources are expected to meet 15pc of China’s forecast domestic supply, or 10pc of demand, by 2020.

China is both the world’s largest emitter of greenhouse gasses and producers of renewable energy.
