New app VoipR rewards users with free points for calls

27 Aug 2012

With Skype, WhatsApp and Viber, smartphone users are spoiled for choice when it comes to communications apps that offer an alternative way to call and text. How VoipR, which launches today, intends to stand out is by rewarding users with free credit.

VoipR lets users make calls to any phone number via the app, using points purchased in-app (prices range from 100 points for €0.79 to 1,500 points for €9.99). Depending on where the user is calling, 20 points will get them 10 to 20 minutes of talk time.

But in-app purchases aren’t the only way users can build up their points, as VoipR also rewards users with free points for various ‘achievements’. The first 20 points are awarded on sign-up and a further 50 can be earned by sharing the app through Twitter or Facebook, or 100 points can be earned for liking the app on Facebook. Users can then continue to net up to 2,000 free points through frequent usage, purchases and shares.

Available now on iPhone and Android, VoipR could be an alternative for users who wish to make calls to others who may not have free call apps like Skype and Viber installed. Though we can’t see mobile operators being too happy with this new release.
