Renewable energy supplier Airtricity has signed a €6m data centre contract with Citadel 100 to supply green electricity to the data centre provider’s 60,000 sq ft CityWest facility.
As energy consumption in the CityWest data centre is predicted to more than double within the next five years, Citadel100 has switched to Airtricity to significantly reduce both its operating costs and its carbon footprint.
By switching to Airtricity, CITADEL100 will reduce its CO2 emissions by 30,000 tonnes per annum – this is the equivalent of taking 5,500 cars off our roads.
“Energy consumption is a key consideration for our business,” explained Noel Meaney, chairman of Citadel100.
“Given the nature of our operations, we consume a large amount and, as such, are conscious of our carbon emissions. It was an obvious move to opt for Airtricity, given its green credentials, but it also offers competitive business rates, allowing us to pass those savings onto our customers.”
Airtricity has responsibility for the development of onshore and offshore wind farms in Ireland, the UK, Europe and Asia, as well as developing hydro and marine projects.
The company was acquired by Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE) in February 2008, and the combined Airtricity/SSE team has developed 40 wind farms across Europe and North America resulting in over 1500MW of electric power, making it a leading wind-farm developer.
