Microsoft nearing 10pc of its 1bn devices target for Windows 10, with some 75m machines upgrading to the new operating system in month one.

Microsoft has revealed that it is already firmly on the road towards its 1bn target for Windows 10, with some 75m machines upgrading to the new operating system after its first month.

Microsoft released the new operating system on 29 July to largely positive reviews.

By comparison, it took Microsoft six months to reach 100m Windows 8 licenses, so the new operating system can already be considered a success.

Windows corporate vice president Yusef Mehdi tweeted today (26 August) that after one month Windows 10 is now on 75m computers.

Microsoft has set a target of having the latest OS on 1bn devices within three years.

According to Mehdi, more than 90,000 unique models of tablets and PCs have upgraded to Windows 10.

“Even some devices manufactured in 2007 have upgraded to Windows 10,” Mehdi tweeted.

He said that 122 years of gameplay have been streamed to PCs from Xbox One consoles.

Mehdi also said that the Windows 10 Store has seen six times more app downloads per device than Windows 8.

He said that 10m achievements have been locked in both Minecraft for Windows 10 and Microsoft Solitaire Collection.

He also disclosed that Cortana has told more than half a million jokes since launch.
