Samsung and Google will hold off on unveiling the next version of Android and the next Nexus phone as they believe it’s “not the right time” to announce a new product.
This Is My Next reports that Samsung and Google sent out the statement saying they will not hold the Samsung Mobile Unpacked 2011: Google Episode event on 11 October as originally planned.
“Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced,” read the statement.
Neither company specified exactly why they were delaying the announcement of Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and the next Nexus phone.
The smartphone is believed to be called the Galaxy Nexus. It could have a 4.65-inch 1,280 x 720 Super AMOLED HD display, LTE or HSPA and a 1.2GHz TI OMAP 4460 dual core Cortex A9 processor.
It may also have 5-megapixel camera at the back and a 1.3-megapixel camera at the front, with 1080p HD video-capturing capabilities.
A video of a device which is supposedly the Galaxy Nexus, was uploaded to YouTube earlier.
The Galaxy Nexus is expected to see a release in mid-November.
UPDATE: The Next Web reports that the event has been postponed until 27 October. The event’s location has also reportedly been changed from San Diego to London, though there has been no reason given for this move.
