Used car website beepbeep.ie is launching a free ‘tweeting taxi’ service in Dublin, letting people book a taxi on Facebook and Twitter every Friday for the next eight weeks.
The service is available on a first-come, first-served basis and the taxi can be booked from 4-9pm starting from this Friday within a 5km radius of Dublin city centre.
“The reason we’re putting together our social media campaign is that it’s something that hasn’t been done before – it’s Ireland’s first free taxi,” said Suzanne Sheridan, press officer at beepbeep.ie.
“4pm on Friday is often the time when we’re on Facebook or Twitter, deciding what we’re doing for the evening with our friends, so it’s a nice way to start the weekend to get a free taxi to wherever you’re going in the city centre.
“As well as that, it’s a nice way for us in the motoring industry to be involved in social media in a fun way,” said Sheridan.
Sheridan also believes beepbeep.ie can use this as a means of giving back to its customers. The site offers pre-approved cars for sale from dealers who are a part of the Society of the Irish Motoring Industry and, as such, have to operate at high standards.
Booking through social media
The taxi is a six seater, but as there is only one car for the service, Sheridan expects that the opportunity will be snapped up fast.
“We do expect it’ll be booked up fairly quickly on the first week this Friday,” said Sheridan.
Sheridan pointed out the popularity of using the web and social media to book services, which inspired the idea for the social media initiative.
“We’re always on Facebook and Twitter and anything that can be done through social networking can be done as easy as possible,” she said.
The taxi can be booked using the form on beepbeep.ie’s Facebook page or users can direct message them on Twitter.
