Suspended teacher stands by her blog

A teacher who is under suspension for criticising her students on her blog maintains she’s done nothing wrong.

“Some of the students, parents and administrators don’t want to hear the truth,” said Natalie Munroe, 30, an English teacher at Central Bucks East High School north of Philadelphia told Reuters.

Munroe, who is pregnant, said only a few friends were meant to see her blog, but a student found it and shared the blog on Facebook.

“My students are out of control,” she wrote. “They are rude, disengaged, lazy whiners. They curse, discuss drugs, talk back, argue for grades, complain about everything, fancy themselves entitled to whatever they desire and are just generally annoying.”

Munroe has been suspended with pay pending an investigation, a spokeswoman for the school district has said.

Munroe’s lawyer Steven Rovner said if she is fired he may file a lawsuit, charging violation of her First Amendment right to free speech.
