Internet sensation Grumpy Cat will probably be spreading some Christmas jeer this holiday season when she appears on the small screen in the TV film Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever.
American cable network Lifetime has picked up the live-action film, in which Grumpy Cat is constantly overlooked in a pet shop and is then befriended by a 12-year-old girl, The Telegraph reported.
Arturo Interian, president of Lifetime, described Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever as “a little Home Alone and a little Die Hard“.
Grumpy Cat, whose real name is Tardar Sauce, gained online fame after the brother of her Arizona-based owner Tabatha Bundesen posted a picture of the curmudgeonly kitty online, sparking the birth of new internet memes.
Feline dwarfism is the reason behind two-year-old Grumpy Cat’s dour expression and her owner has said that Tardar Sauce is otherwise a healthy and normal cat.
Grumpy Cat’s profile has certainly extended beyond the worldwide web: in March, she appeared at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, and landed a film deal via internet cat agent Ben Lashes last year.
When Lashes had told his client she was Hollywood-bound, she looked bored, The Wall Street Journal had reported.
“She hates movies,” Lashes said.
