A start-up jobs fair with a twist will be taking place at the Workman’s Club in Dublin tomorrow evening, with the aim of hooking up undergraduates and graduates with start-ups from Dublin’s tech scene that are currently hiring.
The free event called Dubstarts will kick off at the Workman’s Club on Wellington Quay, Dublin 2, at 6pm tomorrow evening. The idea is that start-ups will network with jobseekers for around three hours against the backdrop of live jazz music.
Dubstarts held its first event back in May and as a result of that networking evening 20 jobs were filled at start-ups, according to Vincent Lyons, one of the founders of the event.
It was while he was working at Startupbootcamp in Dublin earlier this year that Lyons decided to set up Dubstarts along with his friend Phil Fogarty, who had been working at Video Elephant at the time.
“We had lots of friends who were looking for jobs, having come out of university, and didn’t know where to look. Meanwhile, we were in an environment for start-ups where there seemed to be unlimited opportunities. We decided to do something that would try to solve the problem for our friends,” said Lyons. “We were trying to be that milk round for start-ups.”
Start-ups that exhibited at the last event included Swrve, Boxever, Newswhip, SeenBefore, BulletHQ and Fieldaware.
Lyons said that around 15 start-ups will be at tomorrow evening’s event, including companies from Dogpatch Labs and the NDRC.
As to the type of jobs that the companies are looking to fill, he said they will be hiring around business, design and software development and at every level of experience, from interns to full-time engineers.
Lyons said that 350 people have already signed up for tomorrow evening’s event.
