1 Jun 2014

We take a look at some of the most-viewed and most-shared videos on the web. This week we see national leaders, Korean children and three Irish guys do their best to dance in rhythm and poise…well, maybe not.

About 100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute, 500 years of video watched on Facebook every day, and more than 700 YouTube videos shared on Twitter each minute, ensuring there is always video trending on the web.

With so much video available for viewing, we take a look at some of the viral videos that have caught our eye this week.

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny dancing to ‘Happy’

If there’s anything to make a person cringe, it’s to see Ireland’s most powerful politician perform an incredibly awkward dance around children.

In this case, an Taoiseach Enda Kenny, while attending this Friday’s Bloom Festival in Phoenix Park, was roped into doing the ultimate awkward dance-off to the tune of Pharrel William’s chart hit, ‘Happy’. Out-of-sync clapping, awkward grins and bizarre waves make up this particular political performance.

Despite its viral nature, the video has been repeatedly taken down from YouTube but one copy covered by the Irish Independent thankfully still remains.

3 guys Irish dancing around the world

Representing Ireland a little better than our leader, three Irish guys travelled the world and decided to film themselves performing Riverdance in some of the world’s best destinations.

A take-off of the legendary “Where the Hell is Matt?” video, Ian MacNamara, Chris McGrath and Kevin Cobbe undertook the dancing challenge as part of their new venture The Wirld, in an attempt to promote Irish tourism abroad not through business, but through fun.

What a dance by a chubby Korean baby!

People just can’t get enough of dancing this week it seems as yet another dancing video, this time featuring two Korean babies, seems to have peaked people’s interests.

More reminiscent of sumo wrestling stances, the baby on the right is a star to be it seems as she dances away, entirely straight-faced as her male video partner looks on in fear.

Jenga cat

Ah, back to the more familiar cat videos.

This video has been something of a sleeper hit in viral video terms as in the last number of days, the video originally posted last year is finally making waves. Most people are aware that the feline species has a certain cleverness about them, particularly when it comes to knowing what they want and getting it.

The cat now known as Jenga Cat however takes things to another level with his ridiculous surgical like ability to master the tower game without disposable thumbs. Bravo.

Otters play keyboards

What is it with otters and their paw skills? Usually found playing basketball (video) in zoos, a group of Asian small-clawed otters decided to perform their own keyboard number at the Smithsonian National Zoo in the US.

One in particular appears to have the skills of Stevie Wonder…or at least in comparison with its otter buddies as he masters the keys.

Kids react to old computers

Given the pace of how fast echnology changes, presenting a computer that is over 30 years old to a child that has never lived in a world that didn’t have internet can be pretty daunting.

In the latest in their “Kids React to…” series, TheFineBros present them with a 1970s era Apple computer which is far removed from modern operating systems and hardware that it may as well be a pocket calculator that takes up an entire desk.

Safe to say many of them were none too pleased with its lack of Angry Birds.

French open in the rain with Novak Djokovic

Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic is used to being fawned over and followed hand-on-foot for everything from tennis rackets to towels.

However, during the recent French open he decided that it was time the hard-working ball boys and ball girls got a little thanks when one of the lucky teenagers got to sit down with the man himself during a break in proceedings and get the full umbrella and drinks treatment from Djokovic.

Always known not to take himself too seriously off the court, and sometimes on it, it was still a nice touch regardless.
