The Irish Research Council and Silicon Republic have teamed up to offer one researcher an exciting opportunity – a three-week internship at Ireland’s leading technology and innovation news site, Siliconrepublic.com.
The intern will use his or her expertise and knowledge to help shape a content/news programme to engage with Siliconrepublic.com’s growing audience in the research area, while receiving an opportunity to experience first-hand the workings of a vibrant online media environment.
He or she will work with the editorial and web team to help shape Siliconrepublic.com’s science and research coverage in Q4, documenting the exciting happenings in research and development in Ireland so as to engage the research community in Ireland and internationally.
And of course, the winner will also have the opportunity to showcase his or her own research, including a video, on Siliconrepublic.com.
This is a great opportunity for an Irish Research Council researcher to enhance his or her career development, working with a leading media organisation to communicate and promote science, engineering and technology research across Ireland.
The winner will be announced at The Irish Research Council’s annual symposium at Career Zoo in The Convention Centre Dublin on 22 September. They will then be interviewed for a special report on Siliconrepublic.com.
The internship will take place in October/November 2012 and can start on an agreed date that suits the researcher.

To be in with a chance of being selected for the internship, simply create a short video (max 2 minutes) communicating the value of your own research to a non-scientific audience. Upload your video to YouTube and e-mail the link to info@research.ie no later than 5pm on Friday 14th September 2012.
The competition is open to all post-graduate and post-doctoral researchers based in an Irish (ROI) Higher Education Institution.
The winning entry will be selected by a panel from Siliconrepublic.com. The winner must be in attendance at The Irish Research Council’s symposium to claim the internship. Queries related to the competition can be e-mailed to info@research.ie.
