The Nokia Lumia 900 smartphone
The Nokia Lumia 900 smartphone – launched this past week in the US and coming to the UK on 27 April – will arrive in Ireland ‘this quarter’, a spokesperson for Nokia confirmed.
“The Nokia Ireland team are awaiting operator approval on the handset at the moment and all they can tell us is that the phone will be released this quarter in Ireland (before the end of June),” the spokesperson confirmed.
The Lumia, which uses Microsoft’s Windows Phone software, went on sale in the US on 8 April via AT&T.
The new model from Nokia had been key to its strategy to regain smartphone market share in the US, where it had lost out to Google and Apple in the smartphone market stakes.
The Lumia 900 is Nokia’s third Lumia device, and its first LTE device designed specifically for the North American market.
It emerged this week that a memory management issue was blamed for a glitch that caused the phone to lose its internet connection.
Nokia said it honour anyone who has bought, or who buys a Lumia 900 phone up until 21 April, with US$100 credit to their AT&T bills – so it will essentially be giving consumers the US$99 phone (with a two-year contract) for free.
