Still from 'Dog Takes Puppy on Journey in Shopping Cart: Cute Dog Maymo and Puppy Penny' by crackrockcandy on YouTube

We take a look at some of the most-viewed and most-shared videos on the web. This week features a familiar way of venting frustration over Brian O’Driscoll’s absence at the Lions final, Irish-style ‘Cups’, some mistaken One Direction lyrics and a cute beagle named Maymo bringing his sister for a walk.

About 100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute, 500 years of video watched on Facebook every day, and more than 700 YouTube videos shared on Twitter each minute, ensuring there is always video trending on the web.

With so much video available for viewing, we take a look at some of the viral videos that have caught our eye this week.

Amhrán na gCupán

This video has been doing the rounds and spreading the grá for Gaeilge this week. Filmed at Coláiste Lurgan, a Gaeltacht summer school Indreabhán, Co Galway, the song ‘Cups’ from the film Pitch Perfect is recreated as Gaeilge by Laoibhse Ní Nualláin and about 600 staff and students from the school. They even reckon it was a world record, but what it is, certainly, is a fantastic modern-day tribute to the Irish language.

Hitler reacts to news of Brian O’Driscoll

Lions head coach Warren Gatland’s decision to drop Brian O’Driscoll from the squad ahead of Saturday’s final hit the internet hard this week. Though the Lions triumphed in the end, hashtags like #BOD and #justiceforBOD took over Twitter’s trending topics earlier in the week and – although the Hitler video meme has been done to death – we just can’t ignore how accurately this scene from Downfall captured the frustration of a nation.

Weather girl’s eye roll

BBC weather forecaster Wendy Hurrell was also popular on the internet this week when she was caught on camera transforming a sunny disposition to a face like thunder at warp speed during a 10 O’Clock News broadcast for BBC London. Hurrell assured viewers via Twitter that her eye roll was directed at the technical problems experienced in studio, not at newsreader Riz Lateef. Makes you feel sorry for the tech team, all the same!

One Direction caption fail

As if listening to One Direction tunes couldn’t be any more fun (what? I’m serious!), YouTube’s Rhett & Link covered a selection of tracks using the lyrics generated from the YouTube Captions feature, creating these hilarious renditions about “dot knowledge beautiful” gals, Killers CD sets and planting many tissues.
