A Google search for 'Hanukkah' results in a page adorned with star of David bunting
Just days after introducing its “Let it Snow” Easter egg, internet search giant Google has decked out a search results page for the Jewish holiday Hanukkah.
Type in a search for ‘Hanukkah‘, and the results page appears with star of David bunting across the top.
Today is the first day of Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights. It’s an eight-day holiday that commemorates the rededication of the Holy Temple (the Second Temple) in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt of the second century BCE.
Easter eggs in the technology world are a term for the hidden surprises Google leaves in its search engine.
The ‘Let it Snow’ Easter egg debuted over the weekend. A search for ‘Let it Snow’ not only brought up search results for various versions of the famous song, but ‘snow’ that begins to fall from the top of the screen to the bottom of the screen.
The snowflakes keep falling until the entire screen is misted over, leaving the top search queries barely visible. On the top right-hand corner there’s a ‘Defrost’ button to clear the screen.
