3 claims 40pc increase in new customer signups

Mobile operator 3 Ireland says the launch of its ‘all you can eat’ data plan a fortnight ago has led to a 40pc increase in the rate of new customer connections.

Two weeks ago, 3 launched an ‘All You Can Eat’ data usage tariff for the network’s Flex Max price plans. The Flex Max price plans are available to customers on 18 or 24-month contracts, providing all the calls and texts they need each month for one price of €40, €60, €80 or €95.

3 Ireland commercial director Eoin McManus explained that many people in the Irish market are still unclear as to what data they are consuming on their smartphone devices and fear they might be charged for data they consume even if they get a sizeable data allowance.

Smartphone explosion

The company’s latest plans mean consumers can consume as much data as they want, only 3 says it reserves the right to adjust this if a user goes beyond 15GB and it impacts other users in their area.

“Close to 60pc of phones sold in Ireland by 3 today are smartphones and by the end of this year we predict this will reach 90pc,” McManus said. “The key is to get rid of bill shock so users can surf without fear.”
