A Galway-based company has come away with the top prize in the SCCUL Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2010.
Active Mind Technology, based in Galway Mayo Institute of Technology’s (GMIT) Incubation Centre and San Jose, California, US, won the €10,000 first-place prize for its product imeeGOLF.com.
Active Mind Technology develops technology aimed at monitoring and improving a golfer’s game. Its overall award incorporated a consumer device, an online platform as a service, social media and gaming and location-based elements.
The company will also receive a €2,500 advertising package from media sponsor Galway Independent.
“Brands such as Callaway, Nike and others in the golf industry, alongside high-profile investors, recognise that imeeGolf.com is a game changer,” said founder and CEO John McGuire.
“I respect the traditions and etiquette of golf, but we will be offering a new experience for all who play the sport. Golf will no longer be just a good walk spoilt.”
ImeeGOLF stands for “improvement made even easier” and the site provides a self-improvement technology for the world of golf based on the premise of tracking your game to deliver consistency and results.
The website employs an imeeCOACH that allows players to access their personal profiles and training programs, and also allows coaches to quickly build exercises and personalised training programs for their players.
