Get ready for hardcore gaming. Alienware laptops and desktops are already known for their gaming excellence, but the latest M17x laptop with an overclocked Intel Core 2 Extreme is literally the most powerful 17-inch laptop for gamers to date.
Alienware was bought by Dell in 2006, and since then has been slowly replacing its XPS product line as the gaming machine par excellence.
The M17 upgrade is not really an upgrade, it is a complete redesign and remodeling – a flagship Alienware product being used to launch the brand further into new markets with an online campaign bearing a decidedly X-Files/Aliens/otherwordly stamp that pushes the aggressive style and powerful performance of the new machine.
In fact, Alienware has expanded from six to 35 countries worldwide with the M17x campaign.
After Dell’s earlier launch this year of the Adamo – all luxury and sleek lines – the Alienware brand is also actively pursuing a particular market segment, which is a good indication of the way Dell means to continue. And while many old school gamers may miss the XPS, Alienware is proving capable of delivering the goods, both in terms of performance and looks.
The laptop itself looks like an alien relic: a deep-black anodised aluminium casing with aggressive lines reminiscent of set pieces from Alien vs Predator and a red backlit keyboard.
Looking inside, you have the option of getting a dual 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280M graphics processing units and a factory overclockable processor.
The M17x has up to 8GB DDR3 and up to 1TB storage or a 512GB SSD (Solid State Drive), and the monitor is an edge-to-edge LCD with 1920×1200 HD resolution.
