Explore our beautiful world through the magic of time-lapse

Experience our world in glorious timelapse

The digital revolution has presented us with ways of seeing the world in ways previously not possible. The most extraordinary and mesmerising new view of our world is through the time-lapse lens.

Whether it is through a time-lapse or via drones, or a combination of both, we have ways of viewing the world that previous generations could only have imagined.

I personally love time-lapse because it crystalises things, makes them perfect, and you feel you are getting the pulse of our living, breathing world.

Time-lapse is a technique where the frequency at which film frames are captured is much lower than you are used to. A scene that may be captured once every second can be played back at 30fps.

As a result, processes that appear subtle to your eye – the motion of the sun, for example – become more pronounced.

Consider it hyper-cinematic! So, here are the most extraordinary and current time-lapse videos around today:

Earthereal

The International Space Station Expedition 30 crew shot some truly awe-inspiring time-lapse sequences flying over practically every square mile of the globe.

Phased | LA

This amazing video Phased | LA was shot in 12k resolution on the Phase One XF IQ3 100 megapixel camera – three times the resolution of existing 4K Ultra HD content. Each and every frame is 100MP.

Tilt-Shift Dublin

Tilt-Shift Dublin was created as a student project by Olivia Ricci, Stephen Duffy, Rafal Baran and Afshin Moosavi. What’s amazing about it is how it captures the spirit of the city at the same time as making it feel like a kind of toy town. Amazing.

The Big Apple, up close and personal

This time-lapse by Mindrelic captures New York City in a way that feels deeply intimate.

Mirror City Time-lapse

Shot by Michael Shainblum, Mirror City is a visual story through some of the great American cities: Chicago, San Francisco, San Diego, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. These clips were all processed from their original form, into the kaleidoscopic visuals that you see in this video.

Magical Europe

Watched more than 2.1m times on Vimeo, a Taiwanese family used two cameras and over 60 flights to capture 1,000 time-lapse videos, 200,000 images and 20 terabytes of data. Here’s their view on Europe.
