PC World owner to create 100 new Irish jobs

DSG Retail, the owner of PC World and Currys in Ireland, is bucking the recession to create 100 new jobs with a number of new store locations and the rollout of a new retail format that combines PC World and Currys under one roof.

The new store locations will be outlined during the summer, a spokesman told Siliconrepublic.com.

The company has indicated that its “2 brands in 1” format, combining the strengths of Currys and PC World under one roof, will be introduced to Ireland for the first time.

This format has worked successfully in the DSG’s UK and Italy stores and is being rolled out in a number of locations there.

The format offers customers the best of both worlds’ shopping experience, with the home and lifestyle products offered by Currys and the latest technology and supplies provided by PC World, all housed in one store and featuring a number of extended ranges and services

In addition, plans are being developed to completely re-fit the PC World store in Galway and the Currys and PC World stores in Limerick following the success of Currys in Galway, which has traded significantly above expectations and proved exceptionally popular with customers since its refurbishment in the latter part of 2009.

Business will operate as normal during these developments and no existing jobs will be affected during the course of this activity.

“We’ve done this by focusing on value, choice and service for customers, as well as trimming costs where possible and becoming an even leaner, more efficient operation. Introducing eye-catching campaigns like the UK VAT Campaign where we offered parity with Northern Ireland’s prices also drove customers to our stores.

“We’re a dynamic company and our focus is on the big picture. That, for us, is capitalising on the opportunity to provide Irish consumers with an appealing retail environment with the best and widest range of technology and lifestyle products, underpinned by a good service ethic and very competitive prices.

“We have a busy 18 months ahead and look forward to updating customers as we implement our plans,” Ronayne said.
