Time to address data-centre efficiency issues – Gartner

22 Nov 2010

The latest research from Gartner has suggested that an improvement in data-centre design could dramatically increase capacity and minimise space requirements.

The research specialists believe that improvements could decrease space requirements by 60pc while resulting in an increase in capacity by 300pc, according to Itp.net.

Gartner says there is a growing desire to increase productivity and organisations are beginning to examine the consumption ratios of compute power to energy consumed in a bid to maximise productivity.

Optimum delivery

Firms are also looking to get optimum delivery from their IT departments, according to Gartner, and are closely looking at the space devoted to servers and are attempting to efficiently design their data centres.

Gartner believes the time has come for CIOs to address these issues.
