Calling all researchers in Ireland. Get your entries in, and be in with a chance to showcase your research at Inspirefest this summer.

As part of the Inspirefest Fringe this summer, ResearchFest will showcase some of Ireland’s excellent frontier research, undertaken by PhD students from across STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths), humanities and social science.

Interested researchers must submit a three-minute video of themselves communicating their research in plain English. Be as creative in your delivery as you like, and research at the interface of STEM, humanities and social science is strongly encouraged.

The shortlisted group of researchers will receive expert communication training in advance from SNP Communications, and go on to present their research to an international audience at the Inspirefest Fringe on the evening of 30 June next. These researchers will also be in with a chance of winning exciting prizes on the night.

Tips for video entry

Video entries should convey your passion for your research, discuss its potential impact on society and communicate it with clarity for a non-technical audience. There are no extra marks given for the quality of the video production, we just need to see and hear you clearly!

Send your three-minute video – or links to the video – to researchfest@siliconrepublic.com with ResearchFest in the subject line.

Closing date for entries is 12pm (IST) on 24 May. Finalists will be announced on 7 June.

Our event organising and applicant-screening group is made up of highly-regarded researchers from STEM, humanities and social science. Collectively, they have an excellent repertoire of communications experience and include:

  • Prof Arlene O’Neill, TCD
  • Prof Christine Loscher, DCU
  • Fergus McAuliffe, iCRAG, UCD
  • Dr Jennifer Edmond, TCD
  • Prof Linda Doyle, Connect Centre

Additional details

Qualifying presenters can only speak for a maximum of three minutes with no slides. Eight researchers will be selected from across STEM, humanities and social science.

The judging panel on 30 June will be made up of visiting international speakers from the Inspirefest line-up, as well as communications experts and senior researchers.
