Opera Mini 5 arrives on Android

11 Mar 2010

Software company Opera has released a version of its speedy mobile web browser for the Android phone and Opera Mini 5 is now available for download in Android Market.

Opera Mini 5 gives a full desktop browser surfing experience for the mobile handset by compressing data by up to 90 pc before sending content to the phone so that page loading is significantly faster.

It also has features that the average desktop browser user is used to including tabbed browsing, a password manager and bookmarks.

Opera Mini 5 also has Speed Dial: a starting screen feature that displays nine sites you visit the most often for easy and quick access without having to type in the address or go through your bookmarks folder.

“Android users should not have to compromise when it comes to surfing the Web on their phones. Opera Mini will give Android users a fast and cost-efficient access to their favorite Web sites and services,” said Dag Olav Norem, vice president of products, Opera Software.

Meanwhile Opera is working away on getting an iPhone app into the App Store that will be a browser alternative to Apple’s own Safari and has already demoed the application at last month’s Mobile World Congress.
