Check out our video round-up of some of the exciting projects to emerge from the bright young minds of students across the island of Ireland at this year’s BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition.
Now in its 51st year and the 15th year in which the event has been sponsored and organised by BT, the exhibition opened today at the RDS in Dublin.
The event attracted a record 2,077 entries from more than 4,616 students from 367 schools from almost every corner of Ireland.
More than 550 projects were qualified and each day between now and Friday Siliconrepublic.com will highlight some of the amazing projects on display.

Each of the 550 project teams will be interviewed three times from members of an 82-strong judging panel.
On Friday evening, some 120-plus prizes will be available to students and their teachers.
The event has attracted more than 60 exhibitors, 3,000 students who will attend the RDS Primary Science Fair, six different business events, five special acts, 60 shows and eight international delegations.
Between now and Friday, some 50,000 people will walk through the halls of the RDS to witness the innovations on display.
It is understood that since 1965 more than 75,000 students from across Ireland have entered the competition.
